For academic year 2016 – 2017, the UCSRN is looking for a new Independent Body (IB). In the 1.5 years of setting up and developing of the internal structure of the UCSRN, the IB received an important place within the UCSRN. It is one of the three main organs within the UCSRN. It is aimed to have at least one student from every UCSRN member be a member of the IB. The four formal tasks of the IB are as follows:

1. Act as an appeal court to settle disputes between the UCSRN board, members, students and/or external parties that cannot be settled between these parties independently;
2. Audit the accounts of the UCSRN twice a year;
3. Count and administer the votes at a UCSRN General Assembly; and
4. Monitor whether the board upholds the statutes and Policy Manual (PM).

A lot is to be gained from your experience in the IB. The IB, in its formal adjudication capacity, is compared by some as the judicial organ within a society. As a member of the IB you are to gain valuable experience on what this is like. Do not worry if you possess little knowledge about accounting or finances. The necessary skills and knowledge to perform a basic audit of the UCSRN books will be taught to you. You will meet and stay in continuous contact with other students, as your fellow IB members and at General Assemblies, from other University Colleges. The IB elects a chair amongst itself; chairing experience could be gained.

The first General Assembly of 2016 – 2017 will be held on September 24, 2016. Other General Assembly dates are to be announced in due time. Essential to your task is to attend General Assemblies. These are held throughout the Netherlands. Before the General Assembly of September 24, 2016, the books of 2015 – 2016 need to be audited.

You will only be formally elected at the first General Assembly. Nonetheless, for the purpose of the audit, you will be regarded as an IB member. The audit will take place in or around Amsterdam. The date will be set in consultation with the IB members and the treasurer of 2015 – 2016. It is not yet known if you will receive travel cost compensation. This will be decided upon by the General Assembly of September 24, 2016. You may be eligible for retrospective travel cost reimbursement if decided so by the General Assembly.
